I'd just added the Video module, and FiveStar ratings. I'll check out FlashVideo, as Video seems a bit quirky (too many mandatory fields that will get borked by people...)

Thanks Bill,

I have had access the beginnings of a "YouTube" site the D'Arcy Norman has been framing out with Drupal 5.1, and from what little I've seen it seems quite easy to build something like this with Drupal. I didn't want to assume too much too early, but just the possibility of uploading, converting videos with an open source CMS like Drupal is really exciting. I haven;t seen the possibility for quickly grabbing a URL or an embed source code field, but I imagine this might be relatively simple. I know that OpenAcademic has been playing with the integration of all these tools at some length, and I signed in for a test drive recently, looks like Drupal can act like much more than the traditional CMS within the OpenAcademic suite. A really impressive tool to build MediaWiki, Elgg, and Moodle.

RE Building out a YouTube-like framework in Drupal: the FlashVideo module will get you most, if not all, of the way there, right now, for free!

From the module description: "FlashVideo is a complete video solution that expands the upload module to allow web developers and users to upload video files, automatically convert those videos to the popular Flash format, and then embed their video in any node type..."

Cheers,

Bill
