Chris,

I think the WP-Autoblog has been modified for WPMu and is still availble for download here. It is quite ridiculous that they discontinued the plugin for single installations, for it is a nice clean and simple tool for aggregation. Not only does WP-o-Matic do it even better, but why “punish” everyone because a few folks might abuse it for google juice. That said, I guess spam is a big enough problem that folks may have an argument.

One of the things that is nice about using WP-Autoblog in a controlled WPMU environment like this, is that if someone is creating a spam blog you can tell because you have ways of monitoring how many posts a blog makes over a given period with the “Most Active Blogs” widget.

Personally, I actually hope that WP-o-Matic is upgraded for WPMu because it is just as easy as WP-Autoblog and it has lot more sophisticated control for categories and administration, which could make feeding out rss from an autoblog very, very interesting.

It’s worth noting that the autoblog plugin is “on hiatus” at the moment– apparently due to (ridiculous, since there are two other plugins that do similar things that can be misused in similar ways) complaints about spam blogs and such making use of it.

You can still find the zip file if you google it, but who knows when or if it will be compatible with later WP versions. Hopefully it will come back soon!

Since I made an off-handed comment in the office today, I need to take back much of what I said. Let me also say that this is some of the most significant work that Jim has done and, if you have been attempting to keep up with him, that’s a pretty stunning statement. Jim has been on a tear lately, as anyone can tell you. My quibbles are very minor and are born more from personal preferences than from any genuine clutter. Sorry that I even uttered the phrase
