Generations from now, they won't call it the Internet anymore. They'll just say, "I logged on to the Jim Groom this morning.

Everything Jim Groom touches is gold. He's like King Midas, but with the Internet.
-Serena Epstein
My understanding is that an essential requirement of the internet is to do whatever Jim Groom asks of you while you're online.

@jimgroom is the Billy Martin of edtech.

My 3yr old son is VERY intrigued by @jimgroom's avatar. "Is he a superhero?" "Well, yes, son, to many he is."

Jim Groom is a fiery man.

“Reverend” Jim “The Bava” Groom, alias “Snake Pliskin” is a charlatan and a fraud, a self-confessed “used car salesman” clawing his way into the glamour of the education technology keynote circuit via the efforts of his oppressed minions at the University of Mary Washington’s DTLT and beyond. The monster behind educational time-sink ds106 and still recovering from his bid for hipster stardom with “Edupunk”, Jim spends his days using his dwindling credibility to sell cheap webhosting to gullible undergraduates and getting banned from YouTube for gross piracy.
Find out more about me here.
Well, hello there UNCLE Jim.
I said some answers about this on my Twitter, but I am also saying them here in case peoples are not on Twitter to see it.
So, first I think that maybe they are uncomfortable if they don’t have hats like you and Martha and Paul. When I knew you said there would be #noir106, I was getting out my fedora and my detective coat. As you know, the more you wear it, the more comfortable it gets, like an old coat. Because it is.
Then, I was thinking about if they were still learning how ds106 is about imagination and creating things. Like Character Dossiers for peoples. Maybe if you amp it up a bit with some wailing saxophone in the background of the weekly videos, plus make them more smokey, then they might be more comfortable. I like how you make them shadowy and noir but more sax and more smokey might help.
Well, that was what I wanted to say. Say hi to Martha and Paul who is in Pennsylvania.
But really I should say Burtis and Bond.
Well, bye!
Well, I’m actually surprised – Noir106 you all are just in character for the teaching. Makes for a better class and sets the stage for what we are about to encounter! Very creative if you ask me! I thought it was very cool . . . except poor Groom, Burtis needs to let up on him! Give him a break. Burtis is a little scary though – she is tough!!
If someone is uncomfortable with Groom, Burtis, an Bond in the videos – I’d be concerned about their take on the readings. Having been in literature courses I know what to expect and can relate to the “times” that these were written and bring it all into perspective for the “current time”. Will they be able to?
Barabara,
Thanks for the feedback and comment. I totally agree with you take, particularly the poor Groom commnet 🙂 But Burtis actually has a heart of gold underneath the raw exterior. She’s just passionate about her work.
As far as the discomfort with the readings this week, I was hoping some of that would come out, and I am working on my post about my choices right now.
No good will come of this.
Hmmm, this is very cryptic?
Well, to the-so-called person-called-Hemingway’s-adjectives, I know that #ds106 has a LOT of my True Friends and so I know that a lot of GOOD comes out of #ds106, plus @jimgroom and @mburtis and @phb256, and so I think that what goes in GOOD comes out GOOD so do your homework and don’t make up excuses. Plus, sometimes bad things happen. But GOOD things will come out of this so I don’t agree without that nothing good will come of this.
