The previous, extremely long post on this blog was taken entirely from a Flickr album created to document the process of building out The Shining diorama. The project features an iconic scene wherein Danny encounters the Grady sisters in a hallway of the Overlook Hotel. This post is simply to embed that album for anyone who might want to take a pictorial jaunt through the process.

“Reverend” Jim “The Bava” Groom, alias “Snake Pliskin” is a charlatan and a fraud, a self-confessed “used car salesman” clawing his way into the glamour of the education technology keynote circuit via the efforts of his oppressed minions at the University of Mary Washington’s DTLT and beyond. The monster behind educational time-sink ds106 and still recovering from his bid for hipster stardom with “Edupunk”, Jim spends his days using his dwindling credibility to sell cheap webhosting to gullible undergraduates and getting banned from YouTube for gross piracy.

So good. I’m amazed at how little appreciation there is for Flickr, a site that was stood way longer than others, and never denigrated its functionality. I saw a site that discussed maybe the idea of federation versus “traditional” sites, and for photos it listed Instagram, Pinterest, Google photos, but no Flickr.
It can be worthwhile not being That Popular.
Yeah, Flickr is old gold, and talk about a solid, low-key space to put images for projects, I have my phone auto back-up to Flickr and then publish the ones I want to share in my blog. I am not the best Flickr user or photographer, but it is a solid part of my workflow and has yet to fail me. In fact, I am happy to pay to support the service and help keep the lights on for a site I very much depend on and enjoy for my online work. Sometimes being forgotten when it comes to big box store platforms is the best thing that could happen to a service.
I had no idea one could auto publish from phone to Flickr! It’s at a fixed time so you can prevent unwanted uploads? Or can you designate from a selected album?
I have an auto-upload folder, and I can work from there, but the issue I have run into is it can upload images twice if you forced an upload previosuly because you did not want to wait on uploads. I must have 50,000 images, but I am not as good as organizing as you, so going through them is a bit of a task to root out any extras. At the same time, I would much rather have duplicates than to not have a back-up at all.
In terms of features for auto-upload, I’m lazy and never looked, but I’m sure someone has figured those details out. Given you already do this manually with regularity it may not be that valuable, but for an occasional publisher on Flickr it’s a good workflow for me.
