Daily Shoot: Green Maelstrom

Image DS311 for daily shoot project
The daily shoot assignment for today:

Communicate chaos, disorganization or messiness in a photograph. Find some beauty in it. (@divadeb88)

I don’t know why this one was so hard for me, and frankly I’m not totally crazy with my shot. That said, I did manage to approximate the image I had in my mind when I took it, which you can see below (thank you, Brian Lamb):
Image of maelstrom

If nothing else, these assignments start to pinpoint for me the elements of photography I would like to get a grasp on, like shutter speed, catching things in motion, dealing more intelligently with light, etc. But for the sake of time and sanity I will stick with this, unless my kids offer me a new vision of chaos when I get home tonight.

Vertigo…! Besides the nauseating effect it has on the viewer, I think both shots are actually pretty poetic and are spot on for the prompt.
P.S. To be honest, I’m actually more distracted by the image in your header…pretty sweet photo shopping!
    :]

I like how you used nature to communicate the the chaos that exists within it. I love the idea of a spinning shot, very nicely done!

This made me dizzy! I got kinda lost staring at it for awhile…. almost as if I was being sucked through a portal. I guess this picture shows that chaos can be quite fascinating 🙂

Definitely agree with Sarah, the first shot has a nauseating effect, but it definitely nails the assignment. And to answer your question about filters, it’s funny because I actually didn’t have a filter on my camera, my roommate has bright yellow curtains that created a natural filter. I really want to start using them, but just going out and buying accessories for my camera :/

The green maelstrom of death definitely works for chaos. I find it interesting that it is through a project that you get a sense of what you need/want to master of photography. Bava you are always giving me lessons!
