Tomorrow morning at 9 AM I have to run the
reboot now command on one of our servers in order to get Cloud Linux up and running. It’s my job because while it’s morning here in Italy, most everyone on that server is sleeping somewhere in North America while it goes down for 30 seconds to reboot. Tim showed me a cool trick in Slack that I love. The
/remind command. I can tell Slack to remind me to do something and some later time and it will. For example, the following command will remind me to reboot the Sonic Youth server at 9 AM tomorrow.

It’s the little things that impress me most. God is in the details of Slack. When I first saw it I was like, “Ho hum, another ‘communication’ tool.” But once we started using it as an aggregation hub for the various services we run at Reclaim Hosting, I was blown away. And now that I live there, I’m loving how versatile it is. Turns out it’s also a damn good personal organizer. Who knew?
