   So now that you lured me in, I’ve been binge watching for 2 straight days and have caught up. This episode has two of the best pieces of writing for me in this first season. The first is Rawls’s speech to McNulty after he pukes. It’s perfect; the only way he can get McNulty to understand that saying the shooting isn’t on him isn’t just a platitude is to tell him how otherwise he hates his guts. And then later when McNulty unloads on the lawyers – man I swear I have channeled that more than a couple of times directed at higher education. I am not proud to admit how much I identify with McNulty – what a glorious dysfunctional mess. Thanks for giving me a reason to re-watch what is one of my favourite shows ever.

   Scott,

   I find it very interesting those are possibly my two favorite moments in the first season as well 🙂 Especially when McNulty let’s loose on Rhonda, and she turns around and says “you’ll use anyone.” And then at the beginning of episode 12 McNulty comes clean about his selfish motives. But it’s never clear, easy, and cut and dried. The characters are vaunted and debased in equal parts. What I am picking up this time through are all the visual and design elements that are pretty mind blowing. I’m loving it.
