Information about your video “Creepshow: Ed Harris dancing disco”

I’m getting these messages from YouTube more and more these days—I got four in the last last two days. YouTube seems to be embracing it’s role as copyright constable, and their technology seems to be getting better and better—or else they are just catching up on backlogs. Either way, I wonder at what point, if at all, this will start hurting YouTube as a resource. I am getting a bit more annoyed and the feeling that I am being spanked regularly by YouTube and one of the major networks. I want a project reclaim for our culture—why is it illegal to cut, share, and remix this stuff if we aren’t doing it for profit?

    The worst is when you create a great remix and it includes a few seconds of “copyright content” and instead of pulling it they do you the favor of plastering ads overtop it. Like “No worries, we see you made something nice here and now we’re going to poop all over it in the name of making a buck off your creation.”

  2. No takedown though? I’ve been waiting for my posting from Tron to get hit. It’s only 8 secs but no remix other than it being an awesome description of one’s permanent digital record. And thankfully no ads yet.

    What is the real intention of sending this “just so you know” message? Other than it’s just another black check mark written by “the man” next to your name.

    “Oh, I remember that Jim Groom guy, he was putting out illegal videos on the internet! This Youtube posting is just a gateway to real copyright infringement.”

    “Before you know it, he’s going to have that sheet full of illegal videos he lays out on the subway platform, trying to make money illegally.”

    I got the same message for the two videos I uploaded that contain copyright music, one of them being a Black Sabbath tune.

    I followed the link to check out what it means about the visibility of the video it says it will be blocked in Germany……not exactly scaring me off from further postings.

    It’s a racket. Companies in Germany have bought up what they believe to be copyrights on a bunch of stuff that is public domain (not to mention fair use cases, which YouTube’s automated rejection model can’t decipher) and they’re issuing notices. Doesn’t affect users except for Germany. Sometimes others see Ads but dont’ pull them completely. I had this happen to me on a video I pulled from Archive.org and added voiceover to. When in doubt I have no problem turning it right back at them. You can choose to confirm there is no copyright infringement if you believe that’s the case. Most of the time I don’t think the companies even bother to follow up.

    @Michael,
    That Tron identity disc video is amazing, great find!

    @Timmy,
    Well, I might not challenge this one šŸ˜‰
