It occurred to us at Reclaim Hosting that if we were going to run a Domains 18 conference, we would have to start the planning now. Fact is, we really don’t think there is a need for another conference right now. We want to avoid running the conference every year as if it is an inevitable necessity given the simple fact it’s not. Domains 17 was awesome and I believe meaningful for those whom attended, but 4 months later I’m not sure running another conference would add that much to what has already been done and said. Maybe there will be a Domains 19, I don’t know. But for right now it is enough to say there will be no Domains 18, and that’s a good thing.

âReverendâ Jim âThe Bavaâ Groom, alias âSnake Pliskinâ is a charlatan and a fraud, a self-confessed âused car salesmanâ clawing his way into the glamour of the education technology keynote circuit via the efforts of his oppressed minions at the University of Mary Washingtonâs DTLT and beyond. The monster behind educational time-sink ds106 and still recovering from his bid for hipster stardom with âEdupunkâ, Jim spends his days using his dwindling credibility to sell cheap webhosting to gullible undergraduates and getting banned from YouTube for gross piracy.

I miss you already!
Gives the Dead Moocmen more time to rehearse.
I can see the peanut gallery has come to life for this post đ
There will never be enough time for that!
Truer words have never been spoken!
Nooooooo!!!! I so wanted to go last year and could not make it đ
I was putting in for it this week!!!
Autumm,
Sorry about that, but we had to make the call early for just this reason. I do think there might be another, but given the overhead to put it on, and the cost to all involved, running a second one so soon was just not in the cards.
Respect! Today is a day where I was reminded that “just because that is how we’ve been doing it, doesn’t mean that’s how we continue to do it” and this blogpost is exactly that. And so much respect for recognizing it that early on… I’m projecting đ
When you are saying nice things to me on my blog, project all you want đ Thanks Maha, it just made sense. My inclination was to do it again given I get to see so many people in the field I deeply enjoy, but in the end that was not enough. I talked with Tim and Lauren, and they felt the same exact way, and discussing it with Brian Lamb when we were hanging in Barcelona further reinforced the idea that the freedom to do a conference when you feel you need to do it, rather than have to do it, is special. And luckily thanks to the awesome folks that use Reclaim like you, we are in a situation where we can.
I recognize a lot of other organizations are not, and I respect that too—but it puts the pressure on them to do more and grow each and every year and that is not really why we wanted to run Domains. Selfishly, we just wanted to have some fun and indulge, hence the Dead Mooc-men đ
