If I can build and install a pacemaker in this man’s chest…

I don’t know why I even attempted to find a musical anthem, it just ain’t my strength. So I am going to turn to something I am a little more familiar with: bad movies.

[All sorts of expletives in the following clip, you've been warned.]

Used Cars (1980) beautifully captures the DIY spirit of EDUPUNK, I mean come on, $12.95 for a pacemaker? You can’t beat it with a stick, or even a fire hose even.

I am thoroughly convinced that–apart from “Airplane!”–nothing good came out of the year 1980. And, of course, the inspiration for this post.

    Serena,

You just haven’t been looking in the right places, used Cars is an under appreciated classic. And despite the bad rap the 80s gets for greed, coke, and yuppies —it had far better culture in terms of b-movies and music than most decades. I am a proud product of the 80s, just call me Reagan Youth!

    Jim,

I deliberately didn’t say the 80’s. Just 1980. Of course something good came out of the 80’s… that’s when I was born! But I’ll take your word for it that this movie is a classic.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think that Pauline Kael helped champion Used Cars. As for the $12.95 pacemaker, where do I sign up?
