Testimonials:
Generations from now, they won't call it the Internet anymore. They'll just say, "I logged on to the Jim Groom this morning.
-Joe McMahon
Everything Jim Groom touches is gold. He's like King Midas, but with the Internet.
-Serena Epstein
My understanding is that an essential requirement of the internet is to do whatever Jim Groom asks of you while you're online.
-James D. Calder
@jimgroom is the Billy Martin of edtech.
-Luke Waltzer
My 3yr old son is VERY intrigued by @jimgroom's avatar. "Is he a superhero?" "Well, yes, son, to many he is."
-Clint Lalonde
Jim Groom is a fiery man.
-Antonella Dalla Torre
“Reverend” Jim “The Bava” Groom, alias “Snake Pliskin” is a charlatan and a fraud, a self-confessed “used car salesman” clawing his way into the glamour of the education technology keynote circuit via the efforts of his oppressed minions at the University of Mary Washington’s DTLT and beyond. The monster behind educational time-sink ds106 and still recovering from his bid for hipster stardom with “Edupunk”, Jim spends his days using his dwindling credibility to sell cheap webhosting to gullible undergraduates and getting banned from YouTube for gross piracy.
I am Jim Groom

Bondone
Yesterday we brought the kids up to a local ski spot in Trento known as Bondone by the residents. The name is a shortening of the mountain it lives atop, Monte Bondone, which is the highest of the Garda Prealps … Continue reading
12 Post Mortem
Yesterday Tommaso discovered 12 on the rug at the bottom of the stairs. Her last few days were rough, she stopped eating, was visibly disorientated, and could no longer jump. That said, that was only the last few days, the previous … Continue reading
Reclaim Father’s Day
Today was a great Father’s Day: Woke up to homemade waffles; played Frogger on the Commodore 128 after breakfast; went to Burger King for lunch with family; went to Obi (Italy’s take on Home Depot) for a surge protector; got … Continue reading
The Devil in My Pocket
I’ve been on what seems like a two month vacation, and it isn’t getting old one bit. I’ve been taking advantage of my new found freedom from more traditional ideas of work, and spending a lot more time hanging out with … Continue reading
A Decade of Teeth
Today I got a titanium thread implanted in my jaw. This is the first step in the process of replacing a tooth I lost five years ago because of an abscess. I have another visit in four or five months to … Continue reading
Pigeons, Vaporettos, and Masks
My family and I spent close to four weeks in Italy over the Winter break. We go every two or three years to visit Antonella’s family and friends, and often remain in Trento for most of the trip. That was … Continue reading
Cane di bava
Because the bava family are gluttons for punishment, we are thinking about getting a dog. It’s huge for me ’cause I haven’t had a dog since growing up on Long Island with our family dog Thurman—named after the late, great … Continue reading
bavabrood
I’m still decompressing from Faculty Academy, it was a very interesting conference this year with a lot to unpack. I’ll be posting a number of my afterthoughts here over the next week, but in the meantime I have to say … Continue reading
