Testimonials:
Generations from now, they won't call it the Internet anymore. They'll just say, "I logged on to the Jim Groom this morning.
-Joe McMahon
Everything Jim Groom touches is gold. He's like King Midas, but with the Internet.
-Serena Epstein
My understanding is that an essential requirement of the internet is to do whatever Jim Groom asks of you while you're online.
-James D. Calder
@jimgroom is the Billy Martin of edtech.
-Luke Waltzer
My 3yr old son is VERY intrigued by @jimgroom's avatar. "Is he a superhero?" "Well, yes, son, to many he is."
-Clint Lalonde
Jim Groom is a fiery man.
-Antonella Dalla Torre
“Reverend” Jim “The Bava” Groom, alias “Snake Pliskin” is a charlatan and a fraud, a self-confessed “used car salesman” clawing his way into the glamour of the education technology keynote circuit via the efforts of his oppressed minions at the University of Mary Washington’s DTLT and beyond. The monster behind educational time-sink ds106 and still recovering from his bid for hipster stardom with “Edupunk”, Jim spends his days using his dwindling credibility to sell cheap webhosting to gullible undergraduates and getting banned from YouTube for gross piracy.
I am Jim Groom

Uncontrollable Urge to Sell-out!
I was already deeply disappointed when I first heard that Devo was selling off song rights for two-bit commercials – something just seems lost when music you believed was critiquing mindless consumerism is being employed to hock a Twix! Below … Continue reading
James Harvey Dodd – a movie star?
Check this out, while searching Mary Washington on the internet archives I came up with a couple of gems, one from the 1940s and one from the 21st century: A group of teenagers on a high-school radio program discuss just … Continue reading

Getting back to the roots of web logging, here are a few links (some of which have accumulated in my bookmarks for way too long) for your perusal: Reveal is a cool extensionn for Firefox 1.5 (just another reason to … Continue reading
The Narrative Landscape
While discussing the limits and possibilites of the current external web hosting experiment at UMW with my colleagues this morning, the issues of narrative and instructional technology once again emerged as a useful way of framing the ongoing conversation about … Continue reading
What the Chuck?
I have no idea why Chuck Norris has become a cult hero – but I recently read an article in the Washington Post that outlines the current twenty-something generations’ fascination with Chuck Norris (personally, I think he is the most … Continue reading

Wireless has come a long way at UMW, baby …
… but it cerainly lacks some of the “innate coolness” that characterized the aesthetics of Mary Washington wireless from ages gone by – what can I say, like any good noir will testify to, they just dressed better back then!!! … Continue reading
Historic Preservation in the Digital Age …
Before I offer an anatomy of Mario Bava’s oeuvre (which will be available in weekly installments each and every Tuesday), let me digress a little and discuss some other, rather different, concerns that have occupied me as of late. One … Continue reading
