Testimonials:
Generations from now, they won't call it the Internet anymore. They'll just say, "I logged on to the Jim Groom this morning.
-Joe McMahon
Everything Jim Groom touches is gold. He's like King Midas, but with the Internet.
-Serena Epstein
My understanding is that an essential requirement of the internet is to do whatever Jim Groom asks of you while you're online.
-James D. Calder
@jimgroom is the Billy Martin of edtech.
-Luke Waltzer
My 3yr old son is VERY intrigued by @jimgroom's avatar. "Is he a superhero?" "Well, yes, son, to many he is."
-Clint Lalonde
Jim Groom is a fiery man.
-Antonella Dalla Torre
“Reverend” Jim “The Bava” Groom, alias “Snake Pliskin” is a charlatan and a fraud, a self-confessed “used car salesman” clawing his way into the glamour of the education technology keynote circuit via the efforts of his oppressed minions at the University of Mary Washington’s DTLT and beyond. The monster behind educational time-sink ds106 and still recovering from his bid for hipster stardom with “Edupunk”, Jim spends his days using his dwindling credibility to sell cheap webhosting to gullible undergraduates and getting banned from YouTube for gross piracy.
I am Jim Groom

Reclaim’s D.O.A. in Canada
Reclaim Hosting is happy to announce a new shared hosting server in a Digital Ocean’s Toronto-based data center. And while the Toronto data center has been around since 2015, it just got block storage in September. We named this server … Continue reading
Set UMW Blogs Right to Ludicrous Speed
UMW Blogs was feeling its age this Spring (it officially turned ten this month—crazy!) and we got a few reports from the folks at DTLT that performance was increasingly becoming an issue. Since 2014 the site had been hosted on … Continue reading
Muhlenberg College: The ‘Berg Builds
This post has sat in draft for almost three weeks while I finished traveling and decompressing from a month away. Like Cogdog, I have been a tired blogger these days, but unlike Alan I haven’t always been able to push … Continue reading
Give Up the AWS Ghost
Building on my last post about moving ds106.club off Amazon Web Services (AWS), I moved another EC2 instance I setup back in 2014 to run the blogging platform Ghost. Like ds106.club, I had not been able to access the server … Continue reading
Reclaiming with No Regrets
Yesterday was like Christmas at Reclaim Hosting, we got a bunch of new art for the Reclaim Hosting aesthetic (it’s all about the aesthetic!) from the brilliant Bryan Mathers. We’ve been working together pretty regularly over the last 8 months … Continue reading
Reclaim Hosting Turns 3
Earlier today I was talking with my partner in crime Tim Owens about the fact that Reclaim Hosting turns 3 years old this week. I was under the impression it was July 28th for some reason, but turns out it … Continue reading
Reclaim the CSS Animation
It’s been a bit quiet around here recently. Between flying relatively solo on Reclaim Hosting support last week and fitting in some vacation time as well I’ve been fairly busy. That said, I’ve been meaning to play around with CSS … Continue reading
“Not Many People Gotta Code to Live By Anymore”
Amen, Harry Dean! All this talk of coding or being coded is besides the point, when push comes to shove most people simply need a code. I come back to Repo Man (1984) a lot when I am thinking about Reclaim Hosting‘s code. … Continue reading
Just Say No to Domain Phone Scams
I woke up to an email from a concerned Reclaim Hosting faithful that got my attention immediately: Thank you for your email! I actually have a concern regarding security issues. I received a call today from someone called John, claiming … Continue reading
Reclaim Monitoring
The first project we set Joe McMahon loose on when he started contracting with us a few months back was to setup a monitoring system for our servers. We were dealing with server downtime on a case-by-case basis, and Tim knew we … Continue reading
