Testimonials:
Generations from now, they won't call it the Internet anymore. They'll just say, "I logged on to the Jim Groom this morning.
-Joe McMahon
Everything Jim Groom touches is gold. He's like King Midas, but with the Internet.
-Serena Epstein
My understanding is that an essential requirement of the internet is to do whatever Jim Groom asks of you while you're online.
-James D. Calder
@jimgroom is the Billy Martin of edtech.
-Luke Waltzer
My 3yr old son is VERY intrigued by @jimgroom's avatar. "Is he a superhero?" "Well, yes, son, to many he is."
-Clint Lalonde
Jim Groom is a fiery man.
-Antonella Dalla Torre
“Reverend” Jim “The Bava” Groom, alias “Snake Pliskin” is a charlatan and a fraud, a self-confessed “used car salesman” clawing his way into the glamour of the education technology keynote circuit via the efforts of his oppressed minions at the University of Mary Washington’s DTLT and beyond. The monster behind educational time-sink ds106 and still recovering from his bid for hipster stardom with “Edupunk”, Jim spends his days using his dwindling credibility to sell cheap webhosting to gullible undergraduates and getting banned from YouTube for gross piracy.
I am Jim Groom

The ds106radio Summer of Love Camp
It’s more than a week since the ds106radio Summer Camp wrapped up, and the good vibes are still bouncing around the atmosphere of my little corner of the world wide web. The free and open lofi conference that Maren Deepwell … Continue reading
DS106Radio Summer Camp
While the Learning Management System may not be dead, I certainly feel better when it’s not around. In fact, the ds106radio Summer Camp from August 12th through the 16th is embedded in the idea that doing edtech is anything but … Continue reading
The bava Media Center
The bava media center, featuring a Sony Trinitron 19” television to the far left with a Commodore 128 right below it. Beneath that is a used Panasonic DP-U89000 DVD Blu-ray/UHD multi-region player for the new fangled higher-end media. Continue reading
Reclaim Karaoke at the Rockaway Club
It’s been a little while since I blogged, and that’s due to a combination of factors, including visitors, conference preparation, and a little bit of karaoke experimentation. The last of those will be the focus of this post, cause I’d … Continue reading
Reclaim Karaoke: Testing 1,2,3
I’m starting to get back into the stream of things after a month of seemingly non-stop blogging. This week I returned to both Reclaim Karaoke and playing a docent on the internet. Doing karaoke on the internet is something I’ve … Continue reading
Defaulting to the Cloud
Earlier this month I did a session for Reclaim Edtech’s Open Media Ecosystem series on the open source web radio software Azuracast. I also posted about Azuracast’s web hooks that sent notifications to both Twitter and Mastodon when a live … Continue reading
Azuracast Webhook for Mastodon
While I have been moving house to Mastodon over the past month, I knew I would be missing the ds106radio tweets announcing someone going live. That bot was created by UMW student Aaron Clemmer in Sping of 2011, and has … Continue reading
Open Media Ecosystem: Azuracast
Open Media Ecosystem blitz hosted by Reclaim Edtech kicked off last week. Amanda Schmidt and I got the series started by highlighting the Who, What, When, Where, Why, and Hows of the free and open source software Azuracast. You can … Continue reading
Hacks for Hybrid Working Flexing on Reclaim Edtech
I just posted about the Ghost Flex Course currently running at Reclaim Edtech this month, and it occurred to me that is just one of two! Lauren Hanks and Maren Deepwell are deep into week three of their four-week session … Continue reading
Vinylcast #55: After Dark 3
This was a two-part #vinylcast on ds106radio x-cast to Reclaim Radio, while streaming to bava.tv. The vertical and the horizontal. The vinyl was a compilation of artists on… Continue reading
