Generations from now, they won't call it the Internet anymore. They'll just say, "I logged on to the Jim Groom this morning.
-Joe McMahon
Everything Jim Groom touches is gold. He's like King Midas, but with the Internet.
-Serena Epstein
My understanding is that an essential requirement of the internet is to do whatever Jim Groom asks of you while you're online.
-James D. Calder
@jimgroom is the Billy Martin of edtech.
-Luke Waltzer
My 3yr old son is VERY intrigued by @jimgroom's avatar. "Is he a superhero?" "Well, yes, son, to many he is."
-Clint Lalonde
Jim Groom is a fiery man.
-Antonella Dalla Torre
“Reverend” Jim “The Bava” Groom, alias “Snake Pliskin” is a charlatan and a fraud, a self-confessed “used car salesman” clawing his way into the glamour of the education technology keynote circuit via the efforts of his oppressed minions at the University of Mary Washington’s DTLT and beyond. The monster behind educational time-sink ds106 and still recovering from his bid for hipster stardom with “Edupunk”, Jim spends his days using his dwindling credibility to sell cheap webhosting to gullible undergraduates and getting banned from YouTube for gross piracy.
I am Jim Groom

Independent Domains – Thresholds to Teaching and Learning on the Open Web
A couple of weeks ago I had the distinct pleasure of delivering the closing plenary session at the Elon University’s 8th Annual Teaching and Learning Conference. Katie King, Ben McFadyen, and Claudia Sparks were awesome, and special thanks to Peter … Continue reading
Dr. Oblivion Day 4: “Dr. Oblivion is missing!”
In a strange twist, T.A. Jim Groom is left stranded by Dr. Oblivion and left to do all the work of ds106 in his absence. The doctor’s daughter, Bianca O’Blivion gives us all the details. Meanwhile a discussion on visual … Continue reading
I got 99 #ds106 posts and this ain’t one
So, today marks the beginning of a project I have come up with to push myself to document all the genius happening around ds106. It’s simple in theory: three posts everyday until Northern Voice (which is exactly 30 days away … Continue reading
DS106: An Internet Odyssey
I’m teaching Digital Storytelling for the second time this semester, and we just finished week 4. The semester goes quick, and last time I didn’t blog this course nearly as much as I’d hoped to. So this semester I am … Continue reading
Summer of Love: Domain Mapping
Image credit: This cheesy t-shirt over at neatoshop that I love. My love affair with domain mapping has been well documented on this blog, and last week, before I went on vacation, UMW quietly took a big leap forward in … Continue reading
The only thing better than this comic…
Is this tweet about that comic:
On Uncertain Terms
This morning Jon Udell tweeted a quote from this post by Doc Searls: Branding is jumping the shark now because the Net favors reality over bullshit. And it’s inline with a lot of how I’ve been thinking about the idea … Continue reading
Digital Storytelling: the Course
OK, so I’ve been on paternity leave enjoying some quiet time with my ever growing family, and as a result the bava as well as my general annoying presence online has been limited as a result. But, despite that, I’ve … Continue reading
Mozilla Open Education course
(Jan) Philipp Schmidt of Peer 2 Peer University has organized an open course (along with Mozilla and ccLearn) focused on designing the “open educational platform of the future.” It’s a great idea for a course (especially a free one!), and … Continue reading
The Last American Pirate
Image Credit: “It be a Pirate Flag” by Nick Humphries Update: Turns out this site was a hoax, there is no student, but rather a cadre of students who set about creating a fake student, who wrote a fake blog, … Continue reading
