Generations from now, they won't call it the Internet anymore. They'll just say, "I logged on to the Jim Groom this morning.
-Joe McMahon
Everything Jim Groom touches is gold. He's like King Midas, but with the Internet.
-Serena Epstein
My understanding is that an essential requirement of the internet is to do whatever Jim Groom asks of you while you're online.
-James D. Calder
@jimgroom is the Billy Martin of edtech.
-Luke Waltzer
My 3yr old son is VERY intrigued by @jimgroom's avatar. "Is he a superhero?" "Well, yes, son, to many he is."
-Clint Lalonde
Jim Groom is a fiery man.
-Antonella Dalla Torre
“Reverend” Jim “The Bava” Groom, alias “Snake Pliskin” is a charlatan and a fraud, a self-confessed “used car salesman” clawing his way into the glamour of the education technology keynote circuit via the efforts of his oppressed minions at the University of Mary Washington’s DTLT and beyond. The monster behind educational time-sink ds106 and still recovering from his bid for hipster stardom with “Edupunk”, Jim spends his days using his dwindling credibility to sell cheap webhosting to gullible undergraduates and getting banned from YouTube for gross piracy.
I am Jim Groom

Spider-man 1967, Episode 4
Yet another Spider-man, and this episode is a 2-for-1 with two shorter episodes featuring the Vulture and Spencer Smythe. The real joy of these episodes are the villians, in fact it is through their names that my son remembers each … Continue reading
Vancouver, OpenEd City
Well, because the “Crossing the Chasm” theme for this year’s Open Education Conference was a bit too hippie for my liking (especially the image), I decided to offer up an alternative theme/movie trailer for this event based on Roberto Rossellini’s … Continue reading
LMSs get the gas face
Mike Bogle has been basically crawling out of his skin while faced with the prospects an LMS offers the future of thinking creatively about teaching and learning technologies—and rightfully so. It’s a mess, so in solidarity—and thanks to Luke Waltzer … Continue reading
Because I hate Sean Connery….
….I really want to see Zardoz (1974). I mean what kind of loser runs around in a red loincloth with a hippie ponytail for 90 minutes? So, for all you Connery Bond fans, this is the single best argument for … Continue reading
Exploding Blow Pop
I was just reading professor Kelli Slunt’s Food and Chemistry blog for her Freshman Seminar this semester. I got sucked in by all the cool links and recipes, the class uses the site as a space to share links to … Continue reading
Cigarettes and Chop Suey

Here’s a first for the bava, I get to introduce the Western hemisphere to a kickass band from Trento, Italia: TINS (a.k.a Tourists in Sunderland). “What the hell are you doing pushing music you philistine?!” you ask accusingly. “You’re a … Continue reading

And for your sins, here’s part 3: EDUPUNK Battle Royale, Part 3 The third installation of this video takes us deeper into the questions surrounding leadership. This is an issue that hits close to home for both Gardner and I, … Continue reading
